130 gsm A4 Printing Scores Big with Touch Rugby

Ben Gibson knew that one of the most effective ways he could spread the message about his touch rugby classes quickly was through A4 printing. He had seen one of his competitors use A4 print before and thought this maybe a good option.

“Ideally I needed to get the message out about my business to at least a few thousand people. This was a new idea, I did not want to spend a huge amount on A4 colour prints and put all my eggs in one basket” Ben explained.

After receiving some leaflet samples in the post, he decided to go for the A4 paper printing. A4 leaflets are 105x148mm in size. This is just big enough to put your contact details and a little bit of information about your business and what it does. The cheapest A4 flyer printing that is available is usually on 130gsm gloss. 130gsm A4 colour flyers are high quality and the A4 leaflet printing is cheap enough for a start up businesses.

“The A4 flyer printers sent some samples of the cheap A4 flyers in the mail. A4 colour leaflets could be done in several weights of paper. The thickest was 400gsm that was like a hard card. For starters, it made sense to go for something cheap and cheerful, so eventually I opted for A4 colour print on 130gsm gloss. The cheapest A4 full colour leaflets were printed on this material, and they still felt and looked very nice for the price.”

After looking at the ups and downs of creating the A4 flyer design using his own skills and paying a graphic designer, Ben eventually decided on getting only 1 side of the A4 leaflet design done. However, he still wanted to get the design printed on either side of A4 double sided leaflets, this is because it can double your response rate from leaflet distribution. This is because if you post the A4 leaflet through the door and it lands printed face down then it will look like a blank piece of paper. This will drastically reduce the chances of anyone picking it up and reading it. Distributing A4 leaflets is a form of mass marketing, the tiniest changes can really effect response rate.

“At first I was adamant that I could do the design for the A4 printing myself with the help of an A4 flyer template. The best I could do was a poor effort in Word! The A4 printers looked at my design and told me that the picture was too low res for A4 print. After showing it to some friends they said it looked like I had designed it, and although I did want to keep costs down, it did not make sense to spend a lot of money on A4 printing a terrible design from online A4 flyer templates. I couldn't afford to have both sides of the A4 leaflet printing designed professionally, so I just went for one side. The design would be printed on both sides of the leaflet, because it wouldn’t change the cost of A4 printing.”

The 1st proof of the design was sent to Ben the next day, and he requested that the photo used to be changed, and a few more sentences to be added to the back. The changes were made and sent back to him for approval. Ben sent back his approval for the design and the A4 digital printing began.

“When my A4 flyers arrived I couldn’t wait to open them. The leaflets felt and looked fantastic. I felt very proud that I had 1000 A4 flyers with my company name sprawled across. I spent the next 11 days handing out the A4 full colour printing myself in the local area, which was harder than I thought! They all had my mobile number on, and every now and again my phone would ring whilst I was handing the A4 leaflets out. In total I had 19 responses from the A4 flyers. This was enough to get my business up and running. Since then I have had many referrals from those original clients. The number of responses more than paid for the A4 flyer printing. I am now planning to get another 40,000 A4 leaflets printed this year. However, on this occasion, I’m not going hand them out myself!”
