150gsm A5 Leaflets used to get New Diving Class started
Matt Kennedy couldn't afford to advertise his new diving class on prime time TV, but he did know that he could get the message out to 1000's of people using A5 leaflets. Matt had done some research into printing online and had decided that an A5 flyer was probably the best way forward.
“I wanted to get the word out about my business. Because it was a new business, I did not want to spend a huge amount on A5 flyers printing and put all my eggs in one basket” Matt explained.
Some samples of different leaflets were sent to him in the mail and the best option he could see was A5 print. A5 flyer paper is 148x210mm in size. A leaflet this size allows you enough space to display all your main details like address, number and some info on what your company does. 150gsm is still reasonably cheap A5 leaflet printing. 150gsm A5 colour printing is high quality and just the right thickness of A5 leaflet paper for mass marketing.
“I received some samples of the A5 flyer print in the post from the A5 flyer printers. A5 flyer printing can be done in several weights of paper. The premium thickness was 400gsm. I didn’t think it was necessary to go for the best quality straight away, so eventually I opted for A5 colour leaflets on 150gsm gloss. The A5 full colour leaflets printed on this material still felt and looked very nice for the price.”
After looking at the ups and downs of creating the A5 flyer designs using his own skills and paying a graphic designer, Matt eventually decided on getting only 1 side produced for the A5 flyer design. However, he still wanted to get the design printed on either side of a double sided A5 leaflet, since it is important to get both sides of the leaflet printed on for leaflet distribution. This is because if you post the leaflet through the door and it lands printed face down then it will look like a blank piece of paper. This will drastically reduce the chances of anyone picking it up and reading it. Leaflet distribution is a numbers game, and small changes can make a big difference.
“At first I was adamant that I could design the A5 leaflets myself. I spent hours prating about with a design on Word and an A5 leaflet template. The A5 printers looked at my design and told me that the picture was too low res for print. After showing it to some friends they said it looked like I had designed it, and although I did want to keep costs down, it was a waste of money to spend a fortune on printing a rubbish design. I couldn't afford to have both sides of the A5 leaflets designed professionally, so I just went for one side. The design would be printed on both sides of the A5 leaflet, because it wouldn’t change the cost of printing.”
Matt received the 1st proof the day after sending his design brief, and he requested that the photo used to be changed, and his phone number to be changed. The design was amended and emailed back to him. Matt sent back his approval for the design and the A5 leaflet printing began.
“When my A5 flyers arrived I couldn’t wait to open them. The leaflets felt and looked fantastic. The 5000 A5 flyers all with my company on them looked impressive. I spent the next 11 days handing out the A5 leaflets myself in the local area, this was a lot more work than I expected! They all had my mobile number on, and I took calls and booked lessons as I got responses. After all the A5 flyers had been distributed, I had, had 23 calls in total. This was enough to get my business up and running. I am now starting to get referred by those people, so it has resulted in many more clients. The number of responses more than paid for the A5 flyer printing. I am now planning to get another 40,000 A5 leaflets printed this year. However, on this occasion, I’m not going hand them out myself!”
